DevCSI in co-operation with the Open Biblio Project, Open GLAM and OKFN is seeking expressions of interest from software developers, project managers, librarians and experts in the area of bibliographic data in respect of a free event being planned for 12 – 14 June 2012 in London.

The event will offer anyone with a particular interest in bibliographic data the opportunity to discuss the issues they see as relevant in this area, experiment in a focused way on prototyping systems and even hacking them together. It also intends to encourage people to explore current ways of doing things and consider how they might be improved. It is hoped the event will give participants the chance to form small groups to discuss bibliographic data issues, work on paper and/or real prototypes, datasets and APIs. The event will culminate in a series of presentations from the teams in terms of the work they have carried out.

Liz Lyon, Director of UKOLN, will be giving a presentation entitled Partnering for Research Data at the 2nd LIBER International Workshop on Digital Preservation to be held over 7-8 May 2012 in Florence.

The event has been organised by the LIBER Steering Committee for Heritage Collections and Preservation in collaboration with the Fondazione Rinascimento Digitale in Florence and the National Library of the Netherlands. The theme of the Workshop this year is Partnerships in curating European digital resources, in recognition of the increasing importance in the current financial situation of creating partnerships to secure long-term access to digital collections. The next Managing Research Data Hack Days will take place on 3 and 4 May 2012 in the Weston Room II at the Manchester Conference Centre. MRD Hack days are a free small event (which includes accommodation and food) for developers and experts who are interested in working on ideas in the area of Managing Research Data. These MRD days have been organised by DevCSI, the JISC Managing Research Data Programme and the JISC Orbital Project. They aim to bring together software developers, project managers, data librarians and experts particularly in the area of Managing Research Data.

This is the last opportunity to register for this free DCC event taking place over 23 – 24 April 2012 in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Registration will close at 2pm, Thursday 19 April.

The Roadshow is co-organised with Professor Julie McLeod, Northumbria University School of Computing, Engineering, and Information Sciences. Its programme includes an interesting range of speakers who will share examples of developing research data management services and infrastructure.

Day 1 will be a general introduction and is open to all. Best practice will be shared through case studies to help build a community of data management expertise in the North-East of England. Day 2 is a strategic training day for research support staff. The workshop provides an introduction to curation and DCC tools so you can start to plan research data management services for your institution.
