RLUK_David: @TAC_NISO Most of the science benefits of manned-space flight serious overstate and not value-for-money.
RLUK_David: @TAC_NISO I have nothing against adventuring, but let's not confuse it with science. Manned space-flight is adventure, not science
RLUK_David: @TAC_NISO All real extra-terrestrial scientific data-collection is now done by robots - they are much better at it than humans!
RLUK_David: Very cogently put argument RT @FakeElsevier: The REAL FakeElsevier, An Open Letter: http://t.co/WWnBSI5i

RLUK seeks a new Executive Assistant
RLUK seeks a new Executive Assistant.
RLUK Executive Assistant
Salary from £24,520 to £30,122 a year
Research Libraries UK (RLUK) is looking to recruit a full-time Executive Assistant to its small but vibrant team.
RLUK is a member organisation dedicated to realising the vision of the modern research library. We work with leading university and national libraries, funders, and other stakeholders to represent the interests of research libraries, promote a positive agenda of engagement and collaboration to support current and future researchers.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual who can help maintain the smooth day-to-day running of an office distributed across two locations (Birmingham and London). The Executive Assistant will have the confidence to work with our members and external bodies, while ensuring compliance with financial and governance requirements as a result of our status as a registered charity.
In addition, the successful candidate will develop and implement our communications strategy, promoting the work of RLUK to a wide international audience. We are increasingly using social media to engage with our communities and the Editorial Assistant will be responsible for projecting the RLUK brand and values.
The Executive Assistant will also provide support for our mentoring programme and for specific strands of our strategic plan, working in close contact with Board members.
As a small office, the position has wide-ranging duties and involves liaising with contacts at all levels of members libraries and institutions. Excellent oral and written communication skills are therefore required, together with a strong sense of social media possibilities. Experience in higher education (especially libraries) or a research environment would be an advantage. The position will be based at either University of Birmingham or King’s College London, depending on the successful candidate.
Informal enquiries regarding the post may be directed to David Prosser (david.prosser@rluk.ac.uk) or Mike Mertens (mike.mertens@rluk.ac.uk)
Closing Date: 10th February 2012 Post Ref: 34604
