01 May 2007 – Support for e-Research: Filling the Library Skills Gap 01/01/70 12:00:00

This a CURL/SCONUL joint e-Research Task Force (eRTF) event aimed at library and information professionals. Booking is now open for this two day workshop hosted by the National e-Science Centre, Edinburgh, 14-15 June 2007. Full details including the draft programme are available on the NeSC website:

http://www.nesc.ac.uk/esi/events/770/

This is the first event in the training programme developed in response to findings from the web based survey of e-research engagement and training needs conduected by the group. E-Research developments are inspiring rapid evolution in the way research is conducted; changing the ways in which researchers locate, analyse, simulate, visualize, manage, retain, share and re- use data gathered or generated in the course of their research.

The event will explore current developments and their impact upon library support and services. How will our services be re- engineered to interface seamlessly with researchers’ changing work processes? Who are our partners in developing support structures for e-Research. How can libraries assist with support for the use of distributed networks and the management of data generated by this research? The event will bring together a range of speakers from organisations involved in developing support for this area, including Training Outreach Education at NeSC, the Digital Curation Centre, AHDS and the Science and Technology Facilities Council. The event will also explore new roles and developments in libraries opening up this area.

The following expert practitioners and speakers will be involved:

Chris Rusbridge, Director of the Digital Curation Centre
Martin Lewis, Director of Library Services, University of Sheffield and Chair of the Joint e-Research Task Force
Sheila Anderson, Director, Arts and Humanities Data Service
John MacColl, University of Edinburgh
Professor Chris Rawlings, Head of Biomathematics and Bioinformatics, Rothamsted Research
Luis Martinez, LSE Library
Stuart Macdonald, University of Edinburgh Library
