RLUK record identification

Two fields identify a record as having been downloaded from the RLUK database, these are the RLUK 049 and the 090.

The RLUK 049

The RLUK 049 local field must be regarded as a permanent part of the record, the user is obliged by the terms of the RLUK member and user agreement to retain the 049 field in the record both when importing it into their local catalogue and when exporting it for loading elsewhere.

The RLUK 049 field contains the following identification information.

  • $j CU = RLUK record
  • $k RLUK record number
  • $l Provenance code
  • $m Record level code

The RLUK record number

The RLUK record number comprises:-

The $l Provenance code

The provenance code is a single character indicating the holder of the intellectual rights to the record. The holders and their codes are listed in the table below.

The RLUK 090

The RLUK 090 field, which does not have to be retained in your local record, contains the following information:-

$a Three letter library code.

The codes are included in the contributing library list

$b The local classmark used by the contributing library.

There can be up to six $b subfields. For record sources that do not send local classmarks, the subfield is omitted.

Example 1.

A Library of Congress Updated CIP record. LC records do not contain a local classmark field.

Example 2.

A TCD record that originated as a British Library record, but whose record level is unknown. The TCD record contains one local classmark.

An Oxford record that is an original RLUK record, and that contains two local classmarks.

A Glasgow record that originated as an OCLC record, and that is known to meet the RLUK minimum standard. The record contains one local classmark.
