British Library and RLUK to collaborate on preservation training
The British Library and RLUK are delighted to announce a collaboration for the development and delivery of training in library preservation, targeted at the needs of RLUK libraries.
In response to RLUK’s new strategy and in particular the key strategic theme of “developing the research library workforce”, a proposal for a 3-year RLUK-sponsored workforce development programme to build on the current activities of the National Preservation Office has been agreed. RLUK and the British Library will jointly sponsor a post within the Library’s Collection Care Department for 3 years starting April 2009. At the same time the National Preservation Office will integrate with the British Library’s Collection Care Department.
The training programme will have an emphasis on special printed collections, and will help to realise RLUK’s mission of ensuring that collections are available fully for exploitation by researchers. RLUK members will benefit from a training programme designed to meet their workforce development needs, as highlighted in the RLUK Executive Director’s recent roadshow, and will receive a reduction on delegate fees.
The British Library and RLUK look forward to working together on this new area of workforce development.
Anne Poulson, Executive Director, RLUK
Helen Shenton, Head of Collection Care, British Library
