14 January 2009 - BL/RLUK Learning and Skills Development Manager post
Three years fixed term contract
£29,332-£34,237 (appointments usually made at the band minimum)
St Pancras, London
The National Preservation Office (NPO) provides advice and services in preservation management and the development of preservation strategies, for institutions and the owners of library and archive materials. It is a very exciting time in the Library as the NPO will become integrated with British Library (BL) Collection Care in April 2009. As part of the British Library Collection Care Department it will benefit from the resources, knowledge and skills of the British Library, while recognising the specific needs of all types of library and archive collections.
Following on the success of the British Library Conservation Centre and its associated public programmes, and the existing mid-career preservation training offered by the NPO, Research Libraries UK (RLUK) and the BL are co-funding the post of Learning and Skills Development Manager until March 2012. Your leadership and experience in the areas of education, libraries and preservation will be used to the full, firstly to assess the learning and skills needs in preservation management of RLUK member libraries, and then to develop and coordinate a preservation learning programme based on the identified needs of RLUK and UK Higher Education libraries.
This is an exciting opportunity for a cultural heritage professional to work for one of the largest research libraries in the world. We strongly encourage engagement with the higher education libraries and actively support continuous professional development.
