RLUK Mentoring Programme
The pilot RLUK Mentoring Programme began in February 2010 based on ideas
from our Workforce Think Tank.
The RLUK Mentoring Programme supports the Workforce strand of the RLUK
Strategic Plan which focuses on 'aiming to ensure that a rich crop of new
leadership talent is available to take the UK's research libraries into
the future'. For the programme to work, we need both mentors and mentees
to volunteer for the Programme.
The RLUK Conference 2010 will host the formal launch of the RLUK
Mentoring Programme to the membership with the aim of forming a cohort of
mentors and mentees who will work together over a period of two years
both at future networking events hosted by RLUK and also through the
formation of organic mentoring relationships.
The first session of the RLUK Mentoring Programme will take place on
Wednesday 10th November prior to the formal start of the RLUK Conference
in Edinburgh and will run from 11am until 1pm.
The session at the conference will start with an introduction to the
Programme and feedback from the meetings of the pilot programme that have
taken place so far. The session will also look at how successful
mentoring relationships work and examples from other institutions. The
second part of the session will run as 'Speed Dating' with a set of
mentors and mentees having the opportunity for ten minutes conversations
before moving around the room. The session will also provide a networking
opportunity for groups of mentees to speak to each other about issues and
projects at their libraries. During the rest of the RLUK conference, there will opportunities to continue conversations started at this
session.
RLUK would like to encourage staff from all senior levels of the Library to take part in the Mentoring Programme. We particularly encourage
Directors to sign up as mentors in the Programme.
