RLUK’s Digital Shift Forum brings together colleagues from across the information, research, cultural and heritage communities, and third and commercial sectors, to discuss the future of the digital shift in collections, services, and audiences.
The series aims to promote cross-sector discussion and debate, to enable knowledge exchange, and inspire collaborative endeavour across sectors and communities, for the benefit of RLUK members and the wider research and information management communities.
The Digital Shift Forum is open to all, and you do not need to belong to an RLUK member institution to attend or participate.
Maximising the impact of distinctive collections
Wednesday 7 October, 14:00 – 15:00 (BST), 15:00 – 16:00 (CEST), 16:00 – 17:00 (EEST), 15:00 – 16:00 (SAST), 06:00 – 07:00 (PDT), 09:00 – 10:00 (EDT), 21:00 – 22:00 (AWST/CST)
JSTOR has ramped up its efforts to maximise the research and teaching impact of distinctive collections. Building on our modern digital asset management (DAM) foundation, we have been helping institutions migrate from first generation systems to more affordable and accessible digital collections platform infrastructure. Using the JSTOR platform as the front-end, we are making these collections more discoverable and usable, and getting those collections into the research workflow—connected to the secondary literature already on JSTOR—where they can be used more effectively by students and faculty.
JSTOR Stewardship recently introduced an “accessibility engine” to help libraries meet user needs and regulatory mandates. Now, with funding from the Mellon Foundation, we are bringing direct digitisation support to charter participants and exploring new opportunities for cross-institutional collaboration. There are opportunities this fall for additional libraries to join Stewardship’s charter community and benefit from this digitisation support.
In this session, we will share some of our progress on discoverability and accessibility and our vision for greater impact—and invite the UK library and archives sector to explore how we can maximise this opportunity together.
