Regular visitors to this blog will know that over the last few months, OCLC Research and RLUK, have been working together on a joint initiative to help inform shared collection management decisions across the group.
To achieve deeper understanding of RLUK’s collective print resources, OCLC Research have been analysing members combined bibliographic materials within WorldCat. Ultimately it is hoped the output from the research will help inform decisions on how we can collaborate to more efficiently share physical collections across the group, facilitating the freeing of space in our respective libraries.
At the moment, the research looks set to conclude by March, with a view to publishing the findings in April or May. At the recent RLUK Autumn Conference we took the opportunity to catch up with David Prosser, RLUK Executive Director, John MacColl, RLUK Chair, and OCLC’s Lorcan Dempsey to get their view on their hopes for the project and what it could mean for our members and for OCLC too.
